Thought I should update what I've found out from the dealership and Volvo techs since I first posted this. Long story short, most of the time what everyone sees is probably what MY21 is supposed to do. There are a few scenarios:

1. If the car starts in any hybrid mode, for example CONSTANT AWD mode, there are certain part of the gas engine system needs to warm up once it gets into the mode. Before those parts are warmed up you would see PURE mode grayed out

2. However, if the car starts in HYBRID mode, AND you drive slowly, PURE mode could still be available from the start. If you accelerates from the very beginning, it probably falls back to the warmup scenario and gray out PURE mode for a little bit. But it should come back while you are driving.

3. One unique difference for MY21 is the PURE mode is true all electric. That means once you select PURE mode the car will never use gas engine unless you use up the battery. I think previously if condition allows even in PURE mode the gas engine could also turn on. What this 100% PURE mode leads to is that if you push down the pedal all the way and in hot weathers the electric power could be limited. You will see that the maximum electric power guage starts to move from the right side to the left indicating less max power and you would feel the car can not accelerate more.

4. When you drive above 75mph PURE is grayed out, this is probably true for previous model years too.

If you see PURE mode keeps disabled in normal conditions sth else is probably wrong.

Hodně se tam ale mluví o závadě převodovky, kdy ta převodovka nepřipne elektrický motor když má a doporučují kontaktovat Volvo servis. To by ale asi psalo úplně chybu.
